Tests, tunes, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and calibrates developmental and production electronic RF modules and systems, module and system sub-assemblies and circuit boards. Technician III is expected to work with little to no supervision. They are also responsible for helping train and mentor less experienced employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Reads and interprets prints, blueprints, process manuals, assembly drawings and schematic diagrams.
2. Uses voltmeters, power meters, scalar and vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, noise figure meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies and other specialized test equipment.
3. Competent in all aspects of module assembly, such as wiring, reflow, epoxy, and hand soldering through hole and surface mount components. Maintains IPC-A-610 certification.
4. Visually inspects modules and subassemblies for proper workmanship and performs continuity and resistance checks prior to turn on. Repairs as needed.
5. Determines proper module operation, tunes it to optimum using shims, solder spikes and RF absorber and records all pertinent data.
6. Tests, aligns and certifies a wide variety of circuit boards and module/system subassemblies prior to installation.
7. Evaluates module / system performance under actual operating conditions.
8. Analyzes and interprets test data.
9. Evaluates and coordinates repair of returned material.
10. Works with Quality Control and/or engineering to resolve technical problems.
11. Builds and maintains test fixtures as needed.
12. Develops, writes and maintains test procedures.
13. Calibrates some test equipment such as RF loads and cross-guide couplers.
14. Navigates Local Area Network and ERP system to gain the necessary information to complete work assignments.
15. Recommends change to circuitry and/or installation procedures to simplify assembly and maintenance.
16. Serves as team problem solver.
17. Provides input for Engineering Change Requests, as required.

08/12/2008    Electronics Field Technician II

This Electronic Field Technician II position involves a combination of moderately complex and repetitive testing, troubleshooting and prototyping duties. Position requires heavy interface with engineers and customers. The position supports field installations of SATCOM equipment at domestic and international locations. Installations will be primarily focused on servo systems, but will also include mechanical upgrades, RF systems and other systems associated with a SATCOM terminal. During non-installation periods, duties will include testing board assemblies, assembling prototypes and performing factory system tests. Must have a good understanding of and the ability to troubleshoot digital and analog circuitary at the component level. Must be able to repair the circuit boards rather than discard them. The Electronics Technician II will primarily be responsible for onsite installations, requiring extended travel over 50% of the time. Installations will occur in the US and at worldwide locations, lasting from 2-8 weeks at a time. Duties will require you to perform a variety of technical tasks to assist engineers with electronic system testing and design. The Electronic Technician II will be responsible for removal of existing equipment, installation of new mechanical items and electronics, conducting engineering tests, solving mechanical and electronic problems involved in the operation of the product, and performing customer witnessed sell-off.
The requirements for this position include the following:
Two year electronics degree or equivalent.
Two years of related experience
Ability to use electronic theory, analog and digital, (RF knowledge a plus); common laboratory electronic test equipment and to work from schematics and rough sketches.
Multiple language skills a plus
Ability to travel extensively to domestic and international sites, up to 50% of the time.
Solid interpersonal skills with customers.
Must be able to climb on antennas and work in an outdoor environment.
Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and lift up to 10 lbs. frequently.
Must be able to multi-task.
This position requires an Associates degree in Electronics or equivalent work experience.
This individual may be working in the lab or on-site in various weather conditions which may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment. This position may be asked to exert 100 lbs. of force occasionally and be able to lift up to 10 lbs. frequently. In this position, you may be exposed to occasional loud noises. You must be able to climb on antennas and work in an outdoor environment.

This position is to provide technical support within the Customer Service Organization (CSO) of GDC4S. Initially the candidate will be primarily working with the Coast Guard Rescue 21 program. CSO performs system monitoring, fault detection/isolation activities for this program after system deployment. The Technicians at the CSO provide ongoing system support including System Administration , Security/Software patching, and software deployments.
Bachelor’s Technology Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in an Information Systems discipline (e.g., IT, System Mgt.), or have an equivalent experience.
The applicant must be willing to work alternate shifts and be on call as needed. Applicant must be capable of obtaining a US Security Clearance.
Experienced technician will work closely with internal and external customers resolving operational issues with GDC4S products. Candidate must be able to work with minimum supervision, and work well within a team in a customer focused environment, as well as interfacing with other departments on a day to day basis.
Longer term, the candidate will provide second and third level technical support on the Rescue 21 program and other programs CSO supports. The candidate will also perform failure and root cause analysis reporting. Technical support includes both operational issues and failure analysis.
Candidate will also work directly with CSO’s Technical Service Representatives, program engineering, and the customer in resolving day to day issues – then loading problem/solutions into CSO’s knowledge database for reuse. A security clearance is required, so you must have or be able to obtain a secret clearance. A higher or lower grade may be established based upon qualifications and experience. Occasional travel may be required.
Experience with troubleshooting, repairing and operation of large-scale integrated systems (radio, comms, networks, wireless and/or computers) an absolute must.
Experience with remote administration of servers, routers and workstations is a must. Desired skills: Network/ Systems/ Database/ Software administration and troubleshooting in a windows environment. Management of WAN and LAN, including performance monitoring/ reporting. Secure communications products a plus.
Solid RF theory a plus. Experience with large area coverage land based radio network. Experience with Microwave and satellite communication a plus. Experience with Software/ firmware based radios a plus.
Good interpersonal/customer communication and organization skills are a necessity.
Direct customer service and/or direct customer interaction a big plus.
Experience with failure and root cause analysis reporting. Remote fault isolation/ fault detection of computer network and radio communication networks.
Experience with system testing, test procedures and test execution plus.
Knowledge of Spectrum software suite. Experience with Windows Perf Mon, SNMP Agent, Terminal Server, Power Quest Deploy Center, CA ArcServe2000, Norton Anti Virus, Quest spotlight, Solarwinds, Cisco Works, Altiris, and Windows System Admin tools a big plus.
Support of DoD or DHS systems is desired.
An active a US Security Clearance a plus.

Tasks includes support engineers in the generation of documentation, supporting build and testing of hardware. Maintain documentation and history records for equipment in the lab. Able to mutil task. Tasking will involve hands on laboratory testing of prototype computers, documenting test results, checkout, system integration, verification testing, hands on laboratory and field testing, and other tasks assigned by the project leadership. Knowledge of Linux operating systems, C, C++ and database experience desirable. Applicant must be able to apply technical principles, theories, and concepts.
