An Ontologist are responsible for the development, design and programming of ontology knowledge representations for government intelligence applications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties include, but are not limited to: involvement with subject matter experts to gather, analyze, categorize and accurately represent domain knowledge; supporting and extending existing ontologies; designing and integrating new ontology models; and recommending and integrating COTS/GOTS software to develop and extend ontologies.
Additionally, Ontologists are highly involved in the meshing together of large volumes of disparate structured and unstructured data into one seamless semantically integrated data environment which will be the essential basis for more sophisticated analyses and data mining.
Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours
Ontologist also negotiate between engineers and information analysts to optimize data gathering, analysis, and marketing of organizational products; survey customer needs and propose technical solutions; and work with architects to implement the best solution for the customer.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Professional experience and an advanced degree in Information, Library Science, Ontology, Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, a discipline related to the science of humans (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Linguistics), or a related field. Experience or knowledge of the Intelligence Community is highly desirable.
Knowledge of philosophical and computational ontology and more importantly knowledge of how these two subjects are different.
Candidate shall have proven experience in the field of Knowledge Management or a related discipline and implementing knowledge management systems.
Experience with data-modeling tools such as ERWin and Popkin, is highly desirable. Knowledge of knowledge representation environments such as DAML, OWL, KIF, and RDF are also highly desirable.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of subject classification principles, familiarity with working in complex databases, database management skills, exceptional research skills, strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, experience working with subject matter experts, experience with the Internet, search techniques, and the Web. Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal).
*Must be a U.S. citizen and have as a minimun a TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly or be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with full scope Poly.
